MIRAMAR COUNCIL.
Tho fortnightly meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held in tho Council Chambers, 'Willis Street, last ovening. The Mayor (Mr. J. Brodie) presided, and others present were: Councillors Bowie, Laurenson, Itichards, Telford, and Stono.
The recommendation of the Tramways Committeo that tlio revised time-table, as 'submitted by tho city authorities, be given effect to as soon as possible, was adopted. It was dccidcd to adopt tho recommendation of tho Gas and Harbour Board Committee that three lamps bo crectcd iu York Street, one 011 Edinburgh Avenue, three on Ira SlrOet, and two on Hector Street. Tho Water Supply and Drainago Committee's recommendation—that a ceremony in connection with the inauguration of tho water service bo held on October 14—was adopted. Tho consulting engineer, in the courso of a Teport, stated that Contract No. 8, low-level reservoir, had been completed. Tho water was turned into tho reservoir on Tuesday last, but, as it will take several days to fill, it ,has been found accessary to draw tho supply through tho. temporary service until the new 12inch reflux valve comes to hand. Then the main will ba connected up to tho City Council mains. Good progress continues to bo mado in laying the water mains. The pipes arc now laid through Miramar, and round to tho Fortification Kcserve at Karalta Bay. There are still a few short streets to bo reticulated in Seatoun and Miramar, but it is expected that the whole of tho mains provided under tho scheme will have been completed iu about six weeks' time. A letter was received from tho Defence Department stating that tho Department is not prepared to incur tho expenditure of ,£6O necessary for tho drainage of tho pond adjoining tho defence reserve at Dorset Point.—Received. It was reported that a further instalment of .£SOOO (making a total of £20,000 already received) has been received on account of the water loan, tho total amount of which is X 23.000. The .question of granting an increase-of wafros to tho sanitary workers has not yet-been settled. Tho borough engineer in his report stated that the recent southerly storm had caused a wash-out in both the bathing shelters at Worser Bay, and had undermined about 80ft. of fencing. Tho shelters were now being relilled with sand, and tho fencc was being re-erected. In order lo prevent the sand being scoured out in future, it was recommended that a retaining wall 120 ft, in length bo erected in front of tho bathing shelters. Tho wall will bo 12ft. from the shelters] and 2ft. Gin. abovo high-water mark! Tho estimated cost, in jarrah, is .£lO. The plantations nro doing; well, with the exception of tho Branda Pass, which suffered from tho dry weather in August.
