The fifth of tho scries of London wool sales, better known as the September talcs commenced on Tuesday evening, and, vcitcrday, the local brokers received their cable advices. It was generally expected that values would decline, and the cab'cs confirm this. Values liavo fallen from 5 to 10 per cent., according to the oualitv and fineness of the staple. The attendance of buyers 13 said to be large, and, at the opening, in spite of a selection of indifferent wool, the .competition w.-\s animated. The drop in values is, of course, disappointing, but the conditions operating at tho moment are oxc.lptior.nl. Great Britain ha'i scarcely recovered from the industrial upheaval, which cost tho country several millions sterling. With labour r. restive state, it is not to be expected that users of the raw material would buy beyond their actual immediate requirement;;. Beside;) the labour trouble there ia the fact that the money market is disturbed, and that international politics have created r. tension and nervousness that is not helpful to trade. Wo must also take cognisance ol the part played by "bears." Almost In.-

variably at the September F.-v'.er; attempts arc made to "bear" the market. so that purchases can be made in the Australasian markets r.t compa-cativciy cheap rates. When all those conditions are taken ir.li account, tlie drop in values is not very surprising. Looked at souarclv. there is a certain amount of proinro in the outlook. The animated competition indicates that there is a. demand for woo!. At the prices rutins; to-day, wool is cheap, and, as soon as confidence is restored in the industrial situation, r. speculative demand will develop, ar.d prices will ascend. There is, therefore, first the possibility that, before the New Zealand wool clip is ready for the market, values will have recovered. THE WAIBABAPA FARMERS' COOPERATIVE. The annual meeting of shareholders of the Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Assoeia--1011 was he'.d at Carterton yesterday afternoon, Mr. M. Casclberg (chairman of directors) presiding.
