Him ilton, curator of the Dominion Museum" had promised to come to Palmerston towards tho end of October to assist j„ setting cut the collections in the "new room, and he wuld also give a lecture. Tlio president reported that no liad attended a deputation to the Government regarding the construction of tho Napier to Gisbnrnc railway, and had received an assurance from tho Premier that tho line would be commenced at onca from both ends. The question of telephone charges was discussed, and the secretary was instructed to again communicate with tho Postmnster-ftmeral on the subject. It was also decided to point out to the Postmaster-General tho great inconvenience entailed on business men by the observance of Dominion Day ill the post offices, that dav not bring recognised as a general holiday. T'lic opinion was expressed that the ofeervanro of Lalicur Day was a farce. Tho president intimated that in all probability ho would be present at the Tjrihsh Imperial Congress of Chambers of Commerce, which is to be held in London next year.
A meeting of tho combined School Sports Committee was licld last evening, Mr. T. B. Rodder presiding. It was resolved to bold a sports gathering in March next, and tlio following officers were elected :-Patron, Mr. F. I'ira.ni; pre-ident, Mr. F. G. AVatsan; vice-presidents, Messrs, J. A. Nash, T. E. Hodder, and Rev. T. T. Thomas; secretary, Mr. J. Bennett. , Mr. G. H. Bsnnett, of Polmerston, wlio is on a visit to the Old Country, loaves on the return trip to New Zealand on Friday next. ,
