Tho first action of the Borden Government will bo a thorough investigation in connection with the Government spending Departments. Mr. Pugsley, Minister for Public Works in the Lauricr Ministry, has been elected by a majority of two votes only. A recount has been demanded. Mr. R. Lemieux, the Postmaster-Gen-eral, was defeated for the Gaspe constituency, The only Ministers returned aro Messrs. Oliver (Minister for the Interior), Pugsley, and Sir Wilfrid Laurier. The result is unprecedented. It is expected that Mr. Mackenzio King, Minister for Labour, will contest one of tiro deferred elections. Mr. Bourassa, the Nationalist Leader, states that his party will maintain a.n attitude of complete, independence. He emphasises loyalty to tho British Crown, but asserts the necessity for Canadian autonomy for the protection of minorities. Mr. Bickerdike, a well-known Liberal member, asked as to who defeated the Liberals, said: "I don't remember his name. Ho is dead long ago. He is the man who wrote 'Rule Britannia.'" OTTAWA WELCOMES MR. BORDEN. (Rec. September 28, 1.5 a.m.) Ottawa, September 27. The Premier-elect, Mr. Borden, was the object of an enthusiastic demonstration of welcome on his arrival here. His carriage was drawn through the streets by a hundred men, and the city was decorated, chieQy with Union Jacks.
