USAGE OF ANIMALS.
Tlio fortnightly meeting of tho Society for the Prevention of Cruelty t'o Animals was held in the Chamber of Commerce last evening, Mr! J. S. Jamieson occupying (he chair. The inspector reported several cases of alleged cruelty and stated that he had ordered the destruction of four horses. A letter was received from a Kclburno lady offering to donate £o towards the fund of the society if four other persons would do the same. The chairman stated that four guarantors had agreed to give the amounts stipulated for. A letter was also received from Miss C. Hayden, Woburn School, Lower 'Hutt, stating that the school children intended to hold a sals of work next December, and it had been decided to give the proceeds to the society. In connection with tho prosecution of thojfl guilty of cruelty to animals the inspector remarked that the police had rendered him much assistance lately in bringing offenders to book. The statement liiet with general expressions of appreciation.
