MAHENO GETS HER "WIRELESS."

TIIK GROWING LIST. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) ■Auckland, September 25. Another step has been taken in the direction of installing wireless fclegraphii apparatus on the steamers engaged in lli< intercolonial passenger service between Auckland and Sydney. Tho Maheno, which arrived in port ye*, terday, is the first vessel engaged in thia service to have a- wireless outfit in full working' order. Tho Telefunkcn system has been installed, and it' is similar to that in use on tho steamer Levuka, and which is to be installed on tho Victoria and Wimmera. It has a range of over 2000 miles. The Manuka and Ulimaroa already have a wireless installation.

On tho Maheuo's trip across from Sydney (lie apparatus worked splendidly. The vessel was in constant communication, with the station at Suva, and Hie Hotel Australia in Sydney, while, oft' Cape Maria Van Dremon at 9.30 o'clock on Saturday night, the operator pot in touch with thfi steamer Kyarra which was then in South Australian waters. Messages were also received from Iho steamers Ma« rnuia (bound from Vancouver t'o Auckland), Cooma (bound from Brisbane to TovnsvilMj Aornngi (outward, bound from Wellington to San Francisco), and Kuapehu (bound from Wellington, to London). .
