Mnjor-Genor.il Godloy is a, pcssuser by tho Mararoa, which arrives from the south this morning. Mr. T. M. Wilford, who caught a chill last week, and who has been confined to his house for some days in consequence, was able to attend business at his offico yesterday. To-morrow evening at the. Seamen's Institute Mr. T. M. Wilford, Mayor of Wellington, will present Frederick A. Saunders, gunner at the Alexandra ]3arracks, with a bronzo medal awarded by the Royal Jliunnnc Society of New Zealand. The medal is in recognition of bravery shown by the recipient in connection with (he capsize of a boat containing four men o<l , Kim Point, Wellington Harbour, in November last year. Still another of our oldest settlers passed away on Sunday (says our Falmerston correspondent), this being the Rev. G. S. Harper. Mr. Harper arrived in New Zealand by die bar-quo Rachel in March, ISGS, landing at Lytielton. lie proneeded to Christchnrch as one of (ho first Wbsleynn missionaries. A few months later he took charge of the HokiUka district being the only Wcsleyan minister ou that coast at (bo time. During his career as a minister he ha.s been in charge of churches at Auckland, Thames, Lower Hutt, Blenheim, and Nelson. It was at Ibis last place (in 1878) that his health gave way, nnd lie was obliged to retire from the active ranks of the ministry. About a year later ho settled dawn to farming and school teaching at Carnarvon, and remained there till eight years ago, when he took up residence in Paiincrstou. Deceased was 70 years of age.
