FUNERAL OF COLONEL HAWKINS.
A LARGE-CONCOURSE. IBr Telccraoli -Press A«oclat!on.l Christchurch, September 2-1. Tim funeral of the late Colene.l Hawkins took place this afternoon at the Papanni Cemetery. The funeral was essentially a military one, and Wis attended v a large muster of territorials and exvohtntec.rs. General God'.cy and members '■f the he.adiiuarters staff were also present. The service at tho graveside was conducted by Chaplain Captain Bcaji, at tho close of which a volley was fired and i;ht> "last post" sounded. [His Excellency lord Islington has sent the following message of sympathy to Mrs. Hawkins, widow of the b.to Colonel Hawkins:—"Sincore contlolenco and sympathy with you in very sad death of your husband. Colonel Hawkius will be a serious loss to tho defence forces. (Signed) Islingtun-"]
