HAURAKI PLAINS PEST.
Representations have fcosu made to Parliament regarding the. loss suffered by settlers on tho Hauraki Plains, owing to tho ravages of crickets. A petition by AV. J. Abbott and three others ior :i rebate of rent has been favourably reported upon by tlie Lunds Committee, which recommended yesterday afterncon that tho Government should favourably consider applications from those, settlors who have suffered loss in order that they may bo reimbursed for tlie grass-seed destroyed on the usual terms. Tim report w,as adopted, Jlwsrs. Taylor (Thames) and W. F. Masjcy (Trader.of tho Opposition) warmly urging that assistance should be given "to the settlers affected.
