ELECTORAL APPOINTMENTS.
Sir,—l saw recently whore • Mr. Hodgkins says that he has a great deal of extra work"'with regard to the electoral roll. I would like to ask Mr. Hodgkins, through your independent columns, why he took a clerk from a'well-known lifo bffico to fill a position as scrutineer and corrector of the rolls? Also this clerk can return to his own position when his secretary of tho lifo office is busy with' his annual reports. Sir, thero are men with families who are far more experienced. in electoral roll work than tho man or men Mr. Hodgkins favoured. It is time wo knew what rules are followed on these matters. Hoping lam not trespassing too much in your' valuable columns—l do not know what we would do without a paper like yours to make our grievances known—l am, ctc., INDEPENDENCE.
