LAWN TENNIS.

[By "Footfault."]

The American Davis Cup team has not yet been decided upon' to meet Australasia in the final for the Davis Cup. Word has been received from America that they are still very fai- from their final decision. However, it ia fairly certain that Larned, who has been four times champion of America, will como over. Beals Wright,-of course, is a strong probability and one or' more of tho Californians. I hero is some talk of Touchard, and with very good reason, as ho has beaten both M'Laughlin and Long, who represented America in tho last Davis Cup, being selected, although he is somewhat erratic and frail physically. •He certainlv is however a most remarkable player "and deserves consideration. The following is a list of the fifteen best -. players in the United States as classified by the National Association:— 1. W. A. Larned owes one-sixth 2. T. C. Bundy „ ■ 3. Beals C. Wright „ „ i. M. F„ M'Loughlin „ ■ 5. M. 11. Long swatch G. N. W. Niles receives one sixth 7. G. F. Touchard „ „ S. T. R, I'ell 9. F. C Colston „ 10. C.R.Gardner „ „' 11. R. H. Palmer „ ~ 12. W. F. Johnson ~ „ 13. Dean Mathey „ „ 14. R.D. Littlo 15. F. C. Inman owes one-sixth It will b? seen from the above that a group of first-class players may advance together by practiso among themselves. Mr. Bundy, three seasons ago, ranked as twelfth on the list of American players, while M'Laughlin and Long wero some good distanc-s below -being respectively ,13 and 39. Touchrvrd's rise is very notable. In the Metropolitan l Doubles quite recently, ho and Mahan, not only won that event, but defeated such well-known and formidable pairs as Beals Wright and Niles and K. Behr and R. D. Little. ' Tho. IChandallah Tennis Club opened its season last Saturday under somewhat unfavourable conditions, but they have every reason to believe that tho forthcoming season will be a most successful one, and tho members aje starting almost at once to run off a club tournament for prizes to be presented by one of their presidents.
