A cargo or 1.6C0.CC0 feet of Oregon pine, said to be the largest ever shipped tit Portland by any ailing vessel for the colonies, was brought down by the French barque Jlarechal de Gontairt at Duncdin on Sunday last. At 9 p.m. yesterday tho local wireless station received a' message from tho Ulimaroa, en route from Sydney to Wellington, which stated that the vessel was expected to make port about 4 o'clock this afternoon. She will berth at the Queen's Wharf, No. 1 south, after medical inspection in tho stream. ROTORUA, FROM LONDON. MEETS VERY ROUGH WEATHER. Some three hours later than expected, the Isew Zealand Shipping. Company's R.lt.S. Kotorua arrived at Wellington yesterday afternoon from London. Some difficulty was experienced in berthing tho liner at tho King's Wharf owing to tho prevailing southerly gale, but she was moored chortly after 3 p.m. ■ ■'' "■ ■■ ' Tho liotorua left London at 7 p.m. on August 3, and was compelled to leave cargo on. the wharf, owing to the-strike, which commenced two days before the vessel left the docks. Arriving at Plymouth at 8.30 P.m. on August 4, the Eotorua continued her journey to Teneriffc at 4 p.m. on tho followins day. Fine weather, moderate winds, and a slight sea accompanied her to the island port, which \vm reached at 5 a.m. on August 10. Here 570 tons of bunker coal wero taken on board, and tho voyage was resumed at 4 p.m. on the same "day. Iho Rotorua experienced fresh trades and flno v,-eather to Cape Town, arrival being made at 9 a.m. on August 25, and departure being taken for Hobart at 3.30 p.m. the same day. Until September 4, moderate to fresh winds prevailed, and rery ba-d weather was encountered. Strong wcei by south gales, accompanied by mountainous seas, struck the steamer, and hard snow and hail storms descended upon her frequently. On September 5, owing to a dangerous following sea-, the vessel's engines had to be reduced to half-speed lor 13 hours. On the following day fresh to strong winds prevailed, and a considerable swell made things unpleasant for all on hoard, until Ilobart was made at 10 p m. on September 12. Here tho Rotorua discharged 5M tons of cargo, and took in 100 tons of bunker coal. A delay of 24 hours was occasioned, through having to wait for another 100 tons of coal. Uobart was loft, however, at 8 a.m. on Friday laet, and moderate seas and winds were experienced until Monday, when cloudy weather set in. Heavy rain fell through the uight.
