CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOLS.
THEIR REGISTRATION SUGGESTED. (By Tcle<rraph.-SDCcial Correspondent.) Wanganui, September 19. At the Wangaiiui Education Board's meeting last cvoning, Mr. Craik (Chief Inspector) suggested that the board should niemoriciliso the Education Department t , ) tho following effect:—"That all correspondence schools in the Dominion, or outside of it, providing tuition for pcoplo in New Zealand, be registered "by tho Education Department, and that that registration shall show tho name, address, and qualifications of the principal of tho school and his staff, scale of feus, courses of study, names, and addresses of students, and names and addresses of local representatives." "There is no suggestion of inefficiency or unfair dealing on the part of these schools," said Mr. Craik, "but the Government of the country has mado the education of tho people its own concern, and it should lie assured of fho suitability o! every educational agency within its bounds just as much as it assures itself of the efficiency of its doctors, lawyers, or mine managers." The suggestion was endorsed by the board.
