(From Our Special Correspondent.] ■ » — MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., presided at tlio. montlily silting of tho Petono Magistrate's Court yesterday. Messrs. E. \V. Short, R. J. Southgate, and Keir, Justices of tho Peace, were alio on tho tench. James Pomfrey appeared on' a charge of stealing a pair of boots, valued at 10s. Gd., tho property of J. W. Mai-tin. When asked how he pleaded, Pomfrey .stated that ho was visiting Petor.o at the time and had been drinking. "I supposo I must havo taken them, he said, "or the police, would not have charged me. I plead guilty." Accused, who had been previously convicted, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. James Priest pleaded not guilty to alleged theft of a bicycle, valued at -M 10s., on August 4 last. Tho defendant, for whom Mr. Cracroft Wilson appeared, was discharged.
Isabel Woodhouse applied for a summary separation from her husband, Edrnond Walter Woodhouse, the'grounds being persistent cruelty. Plaintiff was exhaustively examined, ami finally his Worship said the information would bo dismissed on her own evidence. Mr. Putnaw appeared for complainant, and Mr. Cracroft Wilson for the respondent. Judgment was cntorod for plaintiff by default in the following: undefended civil cases:—Hutt Valley Tramway Board v. Johnston and Co., lor ostato of A. .T. Eeir, 9s. 10d., costs 55.; samo v. E. Carew, 3s. 3d., costs ss. j save v. C. J. Taylor, Is., costs ss. No order was made in the acttonj Sheehan and Sons v. W. 0. Hanlin, a claim for M 7s. Id. John. Sharp sued W. H. Sammons and Robert Manning fov .£2l 17s. 5d., and after the solicitors had reported that an agreement had been eomo to, judgment was entered as against the partnership accounts. A stay of execution was grantea until October 17. LAUNDRY ACCIDENT. Whilst engaged 'in working a. steam mangle at CoUcb man's laundrv yesterday morning, Ivy Greigg, aged 22, had her hand caught in tho rollors and badly crushed it. Medical aid was at once summoned, and the patient sent to the hospitaL Tho injury is serious.
