The programme was given » mainly by performers from Shannon and Foxton. In the absence of Mr. U. Greig, ' managing director of tho company, tho ' Rev. Mr. Aitken, of l'oxton, occupied the chair. At Professor Mills's lecture in Hastings on Friday evening Mr. Eustace Lane asked whether the speaker would bo willing to confer with Mr. David Jones, the organiser of tho New Zealand Farmers' , Union upon-the question of land tenure. Professor Mills >i-eplied*-in the affirmative. Mr. Lane has followed this up by telegraphing to Mr. Jones, and asking if he will meet Professor Mills and discuss tho matter in-the local theatre, Mr. Lano t') pay expenses. N.C.O.'S CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. Tho third annual meeting of the Wellington Garrison Officers' Club was held at tile Garrison Hall last evening, Co'.ourSergoant T. Davis (president of the club) in the chair. There was an attendance . of twenty-five members. The report of the Committee for tho year t stated that the club was formed in June, ! 19U3, and since then the club had flourished, j and was now in possession of well-cquip- , ped club rooms, including a billiard tablo • and piano, with no liabilities except tho ; debenture-holders. At the last annual . meeting, debentures to tho number of 152 , at XI were floated. The balance-sheet ( showed that while some members had been . a trifle lax in their payments, the committee had been instrumental in collect- \ lag sufficient moneys to meet all expenditure, and still show a crcdit balance, . thanks to tho live members which tho club had reason to be proud of. During j the year several social functions were hold . and nil proved really enjoyable. Three [ euchre parties took place) after which social evenings were 'held. Also one "at [ home," to which members invited their lady friends. The billiard table proved an attraction to members, and amply i justified its purchase. During tho year ono tournament was held, the first prizo . being won by Serjeant Smyth, a trophy presented by Mr. j\ Robert, of Palmerston North, and tho second won by Sergeant t Joplin, u trojihy presented by the club, i The membership of the club now number-. i ed 81, ns against 110 last year. With' i tho new territorial regulations now in operation, a more lively interest would naturally be taken in Defence matters ■ generally, so that the chili could Icok 'forward to a largo membership in the com-' ing year. The thanks of tho club were duo to Colonel Bauchop and to Sergeant Smyth (hild of "G" Company,) for services rendered as secretary; to the press for their kind consideration; to the various i committees for their untiring energy, and i to Sergeant Day for many kind "actions performed dfjr the club. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted, after a brief adjournment to rcctify ! an informality in the balance-sheet, which had been printed and circulated before . the honorary auditor (Lieutenant ,T. It. Cowles) had signed if. An objection hav- . ing been lodged by Lieutenant Cowles, this necessitated a re-audit at tho meeting, the of the balance-sheet being attested by Sergeants C.
