OUT TO BUY GREENSTONE.
—r ♦ — AN ASTONISHED CUSTOMER. (By Tclcerapli.—SDecia] OorresDondnnt.) Auckland, September 18. A burglary, committed somo months ago, when the shop of Mr. W. Larscn, jeweller and curio dealer, Shortland Street, Auckland, was entered and a quantity of greenstone jewellery removed, is stated to have had a somewhat amusing sequel on Saturday.
It is staled that a young Englishman who is stopping at one of Auckland's leading hotels, went into Mr. Larsen's shop in order to purchase somo greenstone, and to give an indication of what ho wanted he produced somo ornaments which ho had bought in Wellington. Those were immediately identified as somo of thoso stolen a few months previously, and tlio astonished man accordingly suggested that the polico should be informed. As ho was able to show a receipted account' for the articles, and could also find friends to identify him lie was soon set at liberty, the 'greenstone, however, being retained. Mr. Larson was approached by a reporter yesterday morning in reference to the incident, but declined to make any statement, positive or negative, regarding it. The police aro likewise very reticent though llioy state that tho robbery is still under investigation.
