9 . PRICE TOO HIGH FOR MR. FISHER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, September IG. With reference to a recent cable from London stating that two leaves from Captain Cook's autograph journal describing lis discovery of Australia were sold at auction for .£451, and that tho purchaser was offering them to the Commonwealth and New South Wales Governments for .£SOO, the Federal Prime Minis-' ter, Mr. Fisher, considers that .£SOO is too much to pay. Tho Commonwealth is not likely to authorise such expenditure. Facsimilies of the missing pages wero secured some years ago, and are now in the Federal Government's possession.
