MIRAAUR COUNCIL.

NO PICTURE CENSOR WANTED. ' A meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last evening. 'l'lio Major (Mr. J. Brodie) presided, and thc.ro were also present Councillors Richards, Telford, Bell, Laurenson, Stone, and Bowie. A letter was received from the Rnngiora Borough Council asking for the council's co-operation in a deputation to the Government to ask for a censorship of moving pictures. Members generally expressed the opinion that no Government cer*>r was needed, and it was decided to reply in those terms, and to add that when tho council considered such a step necessary it would bo willing to take action in the matter. The Minister for Railways wrolo in roply to the council's request for an interview regarding the liutt Railway and Road Improvement Act. The letter "stated that the Bill had already passed its second reading, and that the Minister was including only the original area which guaranteed the loan, and that ho .'regretted that he oould not see his way to exempt any part of that area. The Tramway Committee reported that, t.hey had dccided to ask the tramways engineer to arrange for the eonocssion ticket on cars running to Courtonay I'laco, for the cutting out of somo of the Seatoun cars, and for the discontinuance of any charge for standing time. Tho tramway returns for the 20 weeks to August 18 showed an improvement of J2321 3s. Bd. over the returns for tho samo period of. last year. . Accounts totalling .C 529 19s. lid. wero passed for payment. The amount to the credit of the district fund account was i Gs. Bd., and to the credit of the improvement loan account .£GO2 ss. 3d.
