BIG AUCKLAND BURGLARY.
EXTRADITION OF SUSPECTS PROVES SLOW. William and Maud Rogers, suspected of robbing a jewellery store in Auckland, wore expected to return yesterday, under police escort, from San Francisco, but they wero not among tlio Aorangi's passengers. . ' Between Saturday night and Monday morning, March 18 to March 20, jewellery valued at .£BIO was stolen from the shop of Adolph Kohn, in Queen Street, Auckland, and early in May tlie police at San Francisco arrested' the Rogers, with certain jewellery in their possession. Reports of the alleged burglary, published by the Auckland newspapers, played a part in effecting the arrest, as a former employee of Kohn's, now resident in the Californian city, professed to be able to identify tho jewellery discovered by tlio police; On June 3 Detective Scott went to San Francisco to bring back tho two suspccts, and after some delay secured an order for ■extradition. Since then Rogers seems to have taken advantage of tho American criminal laws to prolong tho formalities, and ho has twico failed to appear hero by the New Zealand mail steamer. No communication regarding the case was received by tho Commissioner of Police in hi 6 American mail yesterday, and the San Francisco newspapers make no reference to tho proceedings.
