SUBURBS RIFLE CLUB.

FIRST ANNUAL MEETING.

The first annual meeting of the Wellington Suburbs Defence Rifle Club was held at the Garrison Hall last evening. Club-President \V. M. Jackson was in the chair, and there was an attendance of about 40 members. The chairman, in opening the proceedings referred with pleasure .to t'he excellent muster for the first annual meeting, which ho regarded as a very healthy sign. The annual report of the' secretary (Rifleman W. G. Follingham) stated that the club, although in its infancy as a rifle club, held a unique record for its first year's work. The club was largely indebted to tho valuable assistance of Mr. J. P. Luke, M.P., the club's patron, in arranging the preliminaries in connection with the acceptance of the club by tho Government. The club opened its first season at Miramar on October 1, 1910, being on. that occasion honoured with tho presence of his Excellency the Governor and a largo number of visitors, and tho first match was fired under the happiest auspices. Tho financial position of the club was sound. Tho receipts for the year were .£7B 3s. 9d., and the expenditure .£7O 19s. 3d.—a credit' balance of .£" 7s 6d. Tho sale of cartridge shells realised X 5 17s. 9d. The club's assets now included targets at Miramar ;C2O; cups, .£27; total nsseis, £i 7. The report went on to review the events of the year, concluding with a rcferenco to the success of tho club in the "Daily Mail" Empire Cup Match, which was won with a sensational score.
