E. G. FINLAY , ENTERTAINED. . By Telograph—Press Association-Copyright London, September 12. The Life-saving Socioty gave a farewell eujpper to E. '. G. Finlay, the Victorian ewimmer. - Fin(ay had an, enthusiastic send-off.' ' , ' Finlay won tho Royal Life-saving Society's King Edward VII Challenge Cup, the conditions for which include that the competitor shall be dressed in shirt, collar, tie, trousers- (serge .or flannel), and boots or shoes, tho soles of which shall be leather. There aro two rcsciio contests —if in still water, one over- a distance of not more than -150 yds. breast stroke, and the other 440 yds. any stroke. If in running or tidal water, the distance may in each case bo increased. In each instance the subject to be rescued shall be carried not less than 20 yards nor moro than 50 yards.i The competition is held annually and last year's holder was Oscar Schiele. This is tho first t'imo an Australian has iron the cup, Keiran and others failing in attempts to lift it. It was proposed that Longwort should have a try for it next year,' but', now that Fuilay has brought it to Australia, all efforts (says tho "Sydney "Daily Telegraph") will bo centred upon keeping it here. The cup is competed for annually.
