IN PARLIAMENT.
DAILY SUMMARY. MORE SPEECHES ON THE BUDGET. The debate on the Financial Statement dragged on rather wearily yesterday afternoon and through tho night, until 11.20 p.m., when it. was interrupted by the adjournment. It commenced soon after tho House met, when Mr. Hino rose to reply to' the Hon. D. Buddo, and to criticise tho Budget from various aspects. Mr. Stallworthy followed, nnd tho member for Kaipara talked platitudes to rows of empty benches, only a fow members remaining in the House to "keep cavo,' sleep, or attond to their voluminons correspondence. Tho Opposition member named to follow him .was Mr. Mauder, who, suffering as he was from a badly Telaxed throat, did not find the task ■of addressing members one that was either easy or altogether congenial. The debate almost collapsed when the House met after the dinner adjournment. Perhaps it was that members were waiting for one another in order to gain time and second-hand opinions, for no one rose in answer to the customary query from the Speaker. It was the turn of a Government member to speak, but the Prime Minister got up to Toply. Mr. Scott and Mr. Glover rose with him, however, and Mr. Scott was seen by the Speaker. Then the debate continued. Mr. Glover led off with a really funny remark, worked in some more light comedy, and then told of the hard lot of certain veterans and pioneers and their families whom ho wanted the Government to reward. Mr- Nosworthy developed some of the points made by his chief against the Government on the preceding evening. He attacked the Government's want of a land policy, and stated that' he would support no more borrowing unless full particnlars of the .loans 'wore supplied to tho House. The last speaker of tho eveninpr was Mr. Poole, who defended the Budget on general lines, utt-ered a strong plea for the bare majority on the liquor issue, and.mado what looked liko a reference to the probable ri.=e of a new party. . , J
