WELCOME RAIN.

After a long spell of dry weather, threatening clouds began to roll up yesterday, but it was not until this morning had commenced that the long-lookod-for rain began to fall in Auckland. From an early hour steady rain fell right up lo this afternoon, and the drought, which tho fanners have boon complaining of, is now effectively broken
An equinoctial nor'-wester raged over Wellington yesterday, and whipped up tho "white horses" in tho harbour. Great heavy clouds wero (lung across tho blue vault overhead, and a few squalls swept over tho ctiy, harbingers of worse things to follow, to judge from the pessimistic forebodings of tho Government Meteorologist as expressed in his official anticipations regarding tho weather of tho immediate future.
