j Solemn requiem mass was celebrated in St. Mary of tho Angels Church, Boulcott Street, yesterday morning, for the lato Very Eev. Father M'Nainara, who passed away on Saturday night last. The celebrant was tho Very Rev. Father Reynault, S.M., Provincial, who had as assistants the Very Rev. Dean M'Kcnna, the Vcn. Archdeacon Devoy, and the Eev. Father Hurley. In tho sanctuary were also His Grace Archbishop Redwood, the Very Rev. Dean Smyth, and the Very Rev. Father O'Shca, Vicar-General. The little church was filled to the doors. Among those present were a number of visiting clergy, including the Very Rev. Father Tubman, of Timaru; the Rev. Fathers Koogh (Hastings), Power (Hawefn), Cognet (Otaki), Bowe (Carterton), T. M'Kcnna (Pahiatua), Kelly (Foxton), Holley (Wanganui), Maples (I'elone), Lane (Hutt), Daly (Upper Hutt). Murray and Cieagh (Redemptorist Fathers), and James Murray. The mass was sung by priests and students of St. Patrick's College, under the direction of tho Very Rev. Dr. Kennedy. Father Shaefer presided at the organ. Tho funeral sermon was preached by Archbishop Redwood, who also conducted the service at the graveside. Sir Joseph Ward was among thoso wlio attended the mass.

Mr. Georgo AV. Chandler, an old resident of Wellington, died at his residence. Ingcstre Street, yesterday morning, aged 72 years. Deceased was born iu London, and camo to New Zealand in 18J7 as a member of the crew of the Minerva, ami lias practically liycd hero ever since. He was one of the oldest members of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows in Wellington, having joined the order soon after his arrival. Ho leaves a widow and a family of four—Messrs. E. G. Word has just come to hand from Narrandera, N.S.W., of the death of Mr. John Herring, a son of Mrs. Herring, of l'altnorston, and a brother of Sir. Fred. Herring and Mrs. 31. J. Kennsdy, of Palniersloii, and of the Rev. Father Herring, of Wellington. Tho late Mr. Herring spent nine years on the Australian goldfields, and while mining there sustained an injury. He subsequently returned to Manawutu, and was engaged in farming for several years in the Kairanga district. Two years ago he again wont to Australia, where, ho took up farming, near the Federal capital. He was about to be married, when ho was overtaken with heart trouble, this resulting from the injury received whilst mining. Last night 3tr. A. Marryatt, who had charge of tho sports at the recent Exhibition, was presented by the Industrial Association with a small, engraved bell »ts a memento of Wellington's big fixture of 1911. 31r. Marryatt has also been elected a life .member of tho association. In the event of the Hon. T. Mackenzie not consenting to contest the Tauranga feat, tho Bay of Plenty "Times" states Mr. Robert King, of To Puke, will bo a candidate in tho Government interest. Mr. Morris Upton, representative of the Woods' Great Peppermint Co., armed in Wellington on Saturday, after an extensive tour of tho South Island. He pioceeds from hero to Sydney on Friduy next, thence travelling to Canada. After working Canada in the firm's interest, J[r. Upton will go on to England, where Mr. Woods, the originator of the cure, is at present residing.
