This evidently means an Australian writer) that' they consider his prospects of winning the race are quite as good as those of his opponent, Barry, the English champion. The result of the race should come to hand by {able to-day. PROFESSIONALS' HANDICAP, Arrangements for the Professional Scullers' Handicap on September 23 have been practically completed (says a. Sydney exchange).. The courso is to bo from Bottle Point to Scarle's Monument, two miles. Among the starters the following are announced:—George' Towns, G'has. Messenger, Jf. C. Kent.G. 11. Kent, F. King, A. C. Breaden, T. Kemp, J. Lorimer, Glover, and Camoion. Entries (fco 55.) close September 10 with the lion, secretary or Mf. Peter'Kemp. The officials named are; Umpire, Mr. Willihm Beach; judge. Mr. Fearn; starters', Mcsrs. N. J. M'Donald and J. Scott; handicappers, Messrs. J. Blackinan, E. W. Ross. and A. Dawson. The clnb' is also arranging a double sculls race for Western Suburbs Ladies' Eowing Club (amateurs), over a mile course, from Henley to Pearson's Point. The Lady Napier , has teen chartered to follow the race, leaving Fort Macquarie. AItNST WINS A GUN CLUB TROPHY. On Friday last 19 competitors met for a right-out club trophy, value .£ls. It ivns an ideal day for outdoor sport. It ivas Wattle Day, and almost everyone on the ground sported.a sprig of the golden bloom (says the "Kelereo"). The protection board. was extended and freshly painted, and with the prjietrating rays of a warm sun the trap work was made nil the more difficult for shooters. The birds, of the best class took well to wing. It was a singular incident that all the birds that got beyond scoring [mint were tricky rising drivers, going for tho barrier. Only three shooters were left in on the conclusion of the fourth round. These were; Moss's. K. Arnst, A. It. Emanuel, and W. C. Barnes. Tlicy shot well, and reached the seventh stage with a clean score. The optional sweep was divided. Shooting on. Mr Barnes lost his bird dead out of bounds from No. i trap. In round eight Mr. Emanuel saw his pigeon from the same trap (No. 4) clear the netting. Mr. R. Arnst scored with the tirst barrel, and won the trophy. The world's champion sculler came iu for an ovation.
