WAIRARAPA V. HOROWHENUA.
FORMER'WIN BY 27 TO It. .(By Telegraph —Special Correspondent.) Carterton, September 9. At Jlasterton Wairarapa easily defeated Horowhenua by 27 points to 11. Neither side was represented by its full strength. The first spell, Wairarapa against wind and sun, ended in favour of the local men by eight lo six. Tries were scored by Brongh and N. M'Kenzic, and ono was converted by tho latter. Horowhenua's scoro was made by Kawin (who kicked a penalty-goal), and ho also scored a. try which ho converted, lho second spell was all in favour of 'Wairarapa, whoso forwards out-classed the visitors in all departments. Barry and Boud each scored a try, while' Brough added three more, two being converted by M'Kenzie. This brought Wnirarapa's 6coro to 27 points. Horowhenua's only scoro was by N. Winiata, and Rawiri failed to improve. Brough was the best forward on the ground. Besides scoring four tries he was a continual thorn to Ihe Tisitors' batiks, and was usually nt the head -of the local pack. Desmond, Bond, and Barry wore also prominent. Tho local backs were w«ik in tackling, and their passing was faulty. F. Groube, at half, failed to uso his backs as ho should behind a 'winning pack. N. M'Kenzie and C. Groube were tho best of the local backs. The Horowhenua forwards were not a match for Wairarapa. Whale. Rawiri, N. Winata, and Row 1 wero the best of the backs, tho last-named being a fine line-!;ick. 'Che gam* was a fast and open one. Mr. E. M'Kenzie refereed. .
