WOMEN AVIATORS.
I am not surprised at tho evident fascination that aviation has for women nor «to' hear jidrioUfctfllyoof'nctf at the different schools (says an' English writer). It is from America that tho nows comes of the first big prize offered for a -flight by a lady. . An anonymous enthusiast has announced that ho (or she?) will givo £2000 to the first lady aviator who duplicates Mr. Hamilton's flight between New York and Philadelphia. I have so far only heard of one entrant for the prize, and that is Mrs. James V. Martin, whoso husband is also a well-known flier. Mile., Dutrieu is soon going to America, and perhaps she may bo induced.to. compete.. At pvcsent.shc is,at Jfotiraelon practising: with: one of the. latest type Henry Farmair machines, on which she': proposes to give, exhibitions on the other sido of tho Atlantic. It is said, that she will bo asked to Cambridge, Mass., to take part in a ladies' flying race which tho Harvard Aeronautical. Society is trying to arrange in connection with its meeting in the Into summer. Possibly Mrs. Martin and- Miss Willard will also fly, ■ tBo latter on a Curtiss machine. There is a new lady pupil at the Farman school at Efampas, Mme. Denise Moore, of whom her instructors think well. Tho Valkyrie school at'Hendon has also a now pupil in Miss Prentice. Miss Meeze, whom Mr. Barber took with him on his trip from Shoreham to Hendon the other day, lias been learning for some time on a Valkyrie. I saw her "rolling" quite nicely ono day at the London Aerodrome. Tho school machines with double control are exceedingly useful for giving lessons on and tho pupil can progress much faster in this way. ..."
