MR. STEAD'S SORROW.
THE FISHER INTERVIEW. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright Melbourne, September 7. Mr. W. T. Stead, editor of tho "Review of Reviews," has written to Mr. Fisher expressing extreme sorrow at the annoyance caused him through tho publication in his magazine of tho London interview, a proof of which was sent to Mr. Fisher's address three days before it went to press. Ho was surprised if lie would say it was misleading after reading tho whole interview. There was nothing original in th© sentiments expressed, says Mr. Stead. Everyone 'knows that not only would tho question arise, but no ono in the Mother Country would deny the right of tho self-governing Dominions to haul down tho (lag rather than bo involved in what th;y might regard as. an unjust war. Tho right of secession was tho foundation stone upon which the British Empire was reared. STATEMENT BY MR, FISHER. Melbourne, September 7. Speaking in the House of Representatives, Mr. Fisher emphatically denied that any member of the Government desired to brenk away from tho Mother .Country. With reference to tho sugar inquiry, the Premier declared that a better distribution of profits was wanted, also protection for the consumers.
