News has been received that the steamer Knight of St. George, which went ashore on tho north-west reef at Nukualofa on August 20, is a complete wreck. HOW THE DISASTER OCCURRED. Auckland, September 7. Tho steamer Atua, which has arrived here from tho Islands, brings additional particulars of tho stranding of the Knight of St. George on a reef at Tonga. She was making for tho western entrance at the rate of about seven knots, the night being pitch dark, and went on a reef a mile and a half from Nukualofa. Tho crow jettisoned 250,000 logs. Au attempt was then made to steam oil tho reef, but it was unsuccessful. When tho Atua left about one-third of the cargo was out. With fair weather, lit was expected to savo practically everything.
