BOYS' INSTITUTE.
, Tho monthly report of tho work of I'he Boys' Institute submitted by tho general secretary (Jlr. Coloneus) to tho Committee of Management 011 Monday was to the effect that tho nightly attendances are largo and the classes are nil making progress. The gospel services for each division wore held each week, and were attended by a t'otal of 172 boys. The averago attendance at Bible classes was 25 a week. The night school was under Jlr. Hopkirk's direction, hard at work for tho coming examinations. The Boy iS'eouts under S. Jl. Martin were practising for the forthcoming competitions, several of which were won by the troop last year. Bovs wero also being examined for scout badges. Forty boys made use of tho lending department of the library, and borrowed 83 books. A boys' chorus has been organised under Mr. Pierard. A mouthorgan playing competition was held for each division of boys and. prizes donated by Jlr. Gardiner awarded tho winners. A lantern talk had been given by Jlr. M'Cluskey to senior members. The treasurer's statement showed that funds for carrying on tho work were not good, there being a sort of reaction from generous giving to tho building fund last' year. This fund cannot bo used for current expenses. Tho committee hope in a measure to overcome this stringency by mean 3 of the benefit performance to be given in tho King's Theatre.
