4 : RECIPROCITY WITH NEW ZEALAND. , i By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright t (Rec. September 6, 11.25 p.m.) i Melbourne, September G. ( The debate on tho Address-in-Reply is proceeding in the Commonwealth House ' of Representatives. Mr. Deakin, Leader of the Opposition, . warmly deprecated the talk of separation, j To .break from the Empire would mean to break from the. Empire treaties, which J were most important to tho. Dominions. Ho was convinced that the greater the dangiff tho greater tho appeal it would make to Australia, and the warmer would be tho 1 response, ■ ■ 1 Mr. Deakin saddled the Government with the responsibility for tho sugar strike. If'it had appointed a Commission to inquire into industry thero would have been no strike. The Prime Minister, Mr. Fisher, in replying, accepted the responsibility for not appointing a Sugar Commission, which ho thought would have been mischievous, but the timo had now arrived to hold an inquiry into the whole industry. He was hopeful of good results from the negotiations for reciprocal trade relations with other countries. Thero should bo no limit, it appeared to him, to reciprocity between New Zealand and Australia, as New Zealand's destinies were so closely linked to those of Australia.
