OLD SOLDIER'S CLAIMS.
<$ MAGISTERIAL REPORTS FINISHED. Members on both sides of tho llouso devoted a good deal of timo yesterday afternoon in urging upon tho Government tho claims of New Zealand war veterans who have applied for military pensions. The member for Pahiatua (Mr. It. B. Ross) said that prior to his departure for don the Prime Minister had telegraphed to the Into member for Christchureh North stating that over 500 claims had been made, and that special legislation would be necessary to carry out the recommendations of the magistrates. Mr. Poarco urged that there should bo no delay as most of tho claimants to consideration were old men. It almost looked as though tho Government wore delaying the matter to allow tho old soldiers to die off. Replying to the discussion, Sir James Carroll said that the magistrates had iurnished their reports, and the summary prepared by tho Department had been handed to the Prime Minister. It was tho intention of the Government to fulfil any promiso it had ma do in connection with tho matter.
