A. DUNCAN WINS THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. AA'ELLINGTON NO. 1 SECURE INTERCLUB VASE. (By Teloeranh—Press Association.) Wanganui, September 5. Tho New Zealand golf championship was continued to-day. The weather was somewhat mixed. In the early morning a stiff gale blew from (lie westward, and a heavy shower fell, about 10.30. The wind then veered to tho south, but tho latter part of tho afternoon was much quieter, and somo good golf was again witnessed. Arthur Duncan maintained his lead in the open championship, and, playing very consistently, .won the coveted title of champion. His third round was. done in SO, and his fourth in 81, the total being ."19. J. C. Johnson was three behind Duncan, but ho played the best round of the day, scoring 70 and 77 respectively. Clements was in better form than on Monday, ami put up 81 and 60, his aggrogato being 326, which was equalled by Stewart, who, however, lost several strokes, his round being 83 and SS. AVcllington's No. 1 team carried off the inter-club challenge vase. Wannanui, September 5. The New Zealand- golf championship meeting was continued at Belmont this morning, when contestants went over the course- for tho third round of the opeyi championship. At the end of tho third round A. Duncan (AVellington) and Stewart (Gisborne) wero at tho top of the ladder in that order with aggie-' gates of 238 arid 241." Duncan went round in 80 on square with bogey playing good, solid consistent golf all tho way. His best hole was the ninth (178 yards), which ho managed in 2. Stewart, who was even with the Wellingtonian at the end of yesterday's play, could not get his card under 83, but played a good sound game. Clements. (Christchurch), pro, who was fifth in tho aggregate when he began this morning, moved up to third with a good SI, making his total 2-14, the best card of tho morning. A hot one, considering weather conditions, was 79 put in by J. C. L Johnston (Palmerston North). He was tenth at the end of tho second round, but the end of the third round, as a consequence of this performance, saw him in the fourth place witli tho total of 215. Hood (Auckland), pro., had a bad run, ami could not get under 85, finishing t) l0 round fifth in the aggregate with 245. Then followed B. J. Smith (Dunedin) 247, J. Forbes (Timaru) 247, H. B. Lusk (Christchurch) 219, AV. M'Ewan (AVanganui pro.) 249, J. C. Burns (Auckland) 250. Tho last-named, who did the round in 80, moved up from eighteenth place to tenth. The fourth and final round was played after lunch, and liogey was again too good for all but three or four. The sensation of the afternoon was the performance of Johnston (Palmerston j North), who made.a brilliant 77, hitting with groat success and power. This brought him up to second place with .122, or threo behind A. Duncan, of AVellington, who, continuing his sound, consistent play, completed the round in 81, and with an aggregate of 319 was returned as open champion for 1911. Clements (Christchurch) remained in tho third place, his SO for the round l?c----itif tho same as Colonel's, and his aggregate. 324. F. G. Hood (Auckland) moved up one, his SI for the round placing him fourth, with 32G, bracketed with Stewart, who made 85 and ageregate 32G. Bidwill 327, Butters (Invercargill) 325, Forbes (Timaru) 329, bracketed with M'Ewan (Wanganui), who finished even with Colonel for tho round.
