■ CANDIDATE'S PROTEST. Dr. Izard was aslccd by an elector at his .meeting in Tinakori Road la?t night if ho approved of tho Prime Minister's going to England at the public expense, and if ho approved- of the Prime Minister's being entertained on his return, at a banquet to which entry cost a guinea. Dr. Izard said it had been necessary for the Prime Minister to represent tho Dominion at tho Imperial Conference. As to the banquet, he raid:—"l think it was a great mistake that he should not have had a public meeting on tho night of his arrival, and addressed the people themselves." Ho added that, although ho may have got himself disliked for it, he hail absented himself from tho banquet, and ]\ad protested against the thing ho had just deprecated.
