It lias been discovered that tho bridge is out of alignment with the existing thoroughfare," and that it affects the frontage of certain property belonging to tho Trust Lands Trustees. A resolution of protest lias been lodged by tho trustees, and a special meeting of the Borough Council is to be held this evening to consider the matter. Tho export output of tho Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company has been sold to a Continental firm at a satisfactory figure. Several important sales of TauiT have been effected in the- neighbourhood of Mastertcu during the last week or two. Ono property of 125 acres changed hands at ,£lO per acre. An advance of lid. per.pound is to be made to suppliers of bntter-fat to tho Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company for tho month of September. Surgeon-Captain Cook has concluded the examination of recruits in tho country districts in connection with the Territorial scheme. A few recruits have still to l)e dealt with in Masterton. At tho annual meeting of the Niroaha Co-operative Dairy Company, Messrs. Bell and Daysh were elected directors. A sum of £10 was set aside as payment, to tho directors for their services in the past year.. Pig-raising on an exlensivn scale is boing carried on just now by settlrrs in tho Kopuarariga and Mfiuricoville districts. '..nlonel Birkeushaw, provincial.secretary of tho .Salvation Army, has been conducting a scries of special services here. On Sunday night he addressed a large meeting in" the Town Hall, under tho auspices of the No-Liconso Council. .Mr: F. W. Carey, manager of tho Masterton branch pf the New Zealand Loan and Jlercantilo Agency Co., left to-day oil a health-recruiting trip to Rotorua. Some interest is already being taken in the county council elections in this district. Mr. C. Cross has intimated his intention of becoming a candidate for the Alfrcdton. riding of the Jlasterton county. A successful "shoot" in connection with the Masterton Gun Club took place on Saturday last. The first sweepstake was v.-on by H. Douglas, and tho second by 11. Wooding and Jos. -Whittaker, who 'tied. The annual championships in connection with tho AVairarnna Boxinsr Association aro to bo competed for in Masterton on September 13 and 14. Boxing has become rarhnr a favourite sport in tho district, and interest is being manifested in tho competitions. In tho Mnsterton Golf Club's competitions on Saturday last, V. H. Elronlo boat A. B. Lawrence; .T. Steel defeated AV. IT. Booth; B. Booth beat, C. Perry; N. James was too good for A. K. Sclandors. In the medal competitions. .7. Steel was successful in the seniors, and E. P. ronton in the juniors. At thfl monthly meeting of directors of the Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company, held on Saturday la.st, Mr. R. A. Thompson tendered his resignation as rfprcscntalivi , of the Nilcait suppliers. Apniicalions for new shares were received, aiid allotments made. It was decided that a call of 2s.
