The French-barque Rochambeau, bound from Glasgow to Tchio coal-laden, went ashore on tho Maine Reef on tho «ast coast of New Caledonia on August 31. The vessel lies in a critical position and is almost full of water. Ono of tho seamen was drowned, but tho remainder were rescued by the French cruiser Kcrsaint.
