PREMIER RETURNS. By Telegraph—Press Association— OoDyrieht Brisbane, September i. Mr. M'Gowen, Premier of New South Wales, .returned from England by the steamer Zealandia. Hβ declined to discuss New South Wales politics. He said ho had been most favourably impressed with what he saw in England, but there was no place on God's earth to compare with Australia, because of her freedom, sunshine, and opportunities. Mr. M'Gowen said he had been shocked by what ho saw in the United States and Canada. In those countries they were sowing the seeds of a whirlwind by allowing themselves to become the dumping ground for tho scum of the earth. Australia- was wiser in her generation in keeping the raco pure. , THE SPEAKER TO BE SUED. Sydney, September 1. Mr. Miller, member for Balhurst, has agreed to pair with Mr. JVleohan— tho member who was recently injured when sliding down a balustrade—until Mr. Meehan is able to attend tho House. Writ's charging the Speaker and Sor-geant-at-Arms with committing trespass on Messrs. Perry, , Fihipatriek and Wood will be issued to-day. Mr. .Wade, Leader of the Opposition, accuses Mr. Willis (tho Speaker) of selling, his party, and suppressing in tho journal of tho House n material fact, or acting arbitrarily irrespective of the Standing Orders. SOME IMPRESSIONS. (Eec September i, 9.10 p.m.) Sydney, September i. Mr. M'Gowen was warmly welcomed by ,l}js, colleagues at ■ a lai;go'. gathering. Ho stiied that Britain was 'a greater country than he had imagined it to bo. The contrasts between the extremo of wealth and poverty wero not so great nor acute as he had expected from what he had read. !A WRIT ISSUED. (Rec. September 5, 0.15 a.m.) Sydney, September i. The first writ as- tho outcome of the Speakership trouble was issued to-day on behalf of Mr. Perry, who claims .£IOOO damages for assault against the Speaker and the Sergeant-at-Arins. The action is the outcome of tho Speaker ordering tho Sergeant to bring Mr. Perry back to the House after ho left, without making obeisance to the chair.
