Similar charges wore brought against, hreo young men—Frank August, William Vlkon, and Charles Wyall—who, reproenlcd by Mr. Jl'Gratli, pleaded not Riiilly. t'ho police gave evidence as in the former :ase, and said that; each of the /defend* ints had Riven various excuses. Ho had been m duty all day—he was rnnsrer for tlio LLuitt County-and was not fcolinjs well on he night in question, lie had nothing to irink. M'Grath said (hat (hero appeared to bo some doubt about Wyatt's cast 1 , ind he hoped his Worship would see lit to discharge him. In reference to the others it appeared to him that the explanations given were all reasonable, ' Di\ M'A'rthur: "I do not like to Bee four young men in a hotel on on occasion such as this; it looks suspicious. The explanations have not been satisfactory. The -maximum fine is 10s., and I do not feel inclined to reduce it. August; and Allsop will bo fined 10s. each, with costs (75.) in each cose." With reference to Wyatt tho Court, with rehictauco, would discharge him. Tho Unit Valley Timber Company (Mr. F. Smith) sued Alex. Samiuons (Mr. Cracroft Wilson) for' JC6 for timber supplied. Defendant denied that he had ever received the timber in dispute, and eventually a nonsuit was entered, as proof of tho actual delivery was not forthcoming. Tho adjourned action of .1, 11. Millnr and Co., v, Michael Ford, a claim for .£29 ISs. id. for goods supplied, was resumed.J. T. Hawthorn gave iormnl evidence, and ; Dr. M'Arthur said that if, the Court was going into the rase in detail it would take a whole day. Seeing that the parties wero unable to come to a mutual agreement, this would be the best course to follow. The co.se would therefore bo adjourned until September 13. Tho following judgment summonses wcro dealt with:—William E. Timmings was ordered to pay Rouse nii'J Hurrell a debt of £) 13s. Gd. on or before September IS, in default seven days' imprisonment. William Timmins (£'i 16s. Gd.), Frank Wilson (XI Is.), and .Charles Young {£1 17s. Gd.) were each ordered to. pay amount owing to Ctpoi'ro Bradley before September 18. Default in the first case was fixed at seven days' imprisonment, and iu the others aA three days' imprisonment. , ' 'nUTT , LICENSING BENCH. The quarterly sitting, of the Hutt Licer*Bing Committee, held at Lower Hutt at. noon ■yesterday, occupied just two miiititea, Dr. M'Arthur presided, and there-were also on tho Bench Messrs. Cotton, Cudby, and Eydor. A transfer from Frank' Hip> got to Robert Dwjer, in respect of the Railway Hotel, was approved, and also a transfer from Thomas Kingston to Andrew Avison in respect of tho llellevuo Hotel, Tho iwlico had no complaints to' niako.
