Among tho most interesting of vocal contests in the forthcoming competitions in Wellington is that set apart for church choirs, tor which Messrs. Begg and Co. are offering a magnificent silver shield. Tho secretary (Mr. J. Dykes) has been informed that if it is possiblo to ! make arrangements to billet them the noted Grenn Island choir from Duncdin will probably make this trip to Wellington. To make this possible several citizens aro being approached to proffer hospitality to one or more members of the choir. During tho day on which the traffic! census was taken 12,505 cyclists entered tho city of London. Tho Westminster Conntv Council has consented to a scheme, submitted by Mr. | John Murray, an architect, for rebuilding in Piccadilly Circus, including portions of the Quadrant, Piccadilly. Itegent Street, and Glasshouse Street. The plans show a straightening of tho ' building lines on lx>th sides of Eegent Street from Jermyn Street to Piccadilly Circus. It was proposed among other things to set' back the corner of Messrs. Swan and Edgar's shop ten feet, or twelve feet, and to add the land to the public way, ami to take away a small strip on tho south side of tin Quadrant. Objection had been taken to iho scheme and alternative proposals made, but after a discussion the council ngreed to the scheme with only three dissentients.
