A SPLENDID SUCCESS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Roc. September 3, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, September 2. Th« Melba Opera Company opened their season to-night. Tho houso was packed, and the audience enthusiastic. It was a splendid success, tho takings exceeding ,£ISOO, which is a record. Tho people commenced to gather at seven o'clock in the morning. There was a dense crowd and a great rush when the theatre oponcd at two o'clock. Tho time was occupied till tho jiorformanco by impromptu concerts, the theatre providing tea.
