MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Spccial CorrospoTident.l Masterton, September 1. Mr. David Jonfs, organiser for Hie N.Z. Farmers' Union, will be in 1 lie Wairarapa district from September 13 to 2.1. He will give his opening address in Jlastcrton on September 13. Mr. G. E. Sykes gave an address at Pongaroa last evening, and had a good reception. Mr. W. D. Taylor, of Pahintua, lias been appointed fat stock drafter for the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company in the North Wiurarupa district. His headquarters will bo ill Pahiatua. A successful dance in aid of the funds of the choir of St. Patrick's Church was held in the Drill Hall last night. About eighty collides wor* present, and the floor was in excellent order for dancing. Mr. J. Bradbury acted as master of ceremonies, and (lie music was provided by Mr. Frank M'Keuzie. A "United Fire Brigade Association" has been formed at Danncvirke. This will embrace the whole of the brigades from Gisborne to Martinborough. The Wairurapa. brigades have decided to join the association, the first demonstration in connection with which will probably bo held in March next. The monthly "at home" in connection with the Congregational Church was'held yesterday. 'Xlie l?ev. A. Hodge, who presided, staled that it was just three years since the church had been formed by a handful of members. .Since then both church and Sunday school had beeomo strong organisations. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Ernest John Linton claimed from William Andrew a sum of .1:9 Ss., being ono month's wages in lieu of notice, for alleged Wrongful dismissal. After hcarievidence, Mr. L. G. I?rid, S.M., gave judgment for plaintiff for the full amount claimed, with costs .£2. Mr. W. 11. Buiek, of Opaki, is securing an excellent percentage of lambs from his Ronmey ilock this season. Last year his percentage was 127, and ho expects that this splendid record will bo beaten this year. Mr. W. S. Rutherford, of Pareora, South Canterbury, has- been appointed head stockman at the Wainiava works of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company. Mr. Rutherford has held a similar position at the Pareora works, for some years past. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Rcardon, of this town, will regret to hear of the death of their daughter Aiuiie,'which occurred on Thursday morning. Deceased was exceedingly popular with those who knew her. The Masterton dairy factory was opened for the season on Wednesday with nil increased number of. suppliers. The company cxpects that the coming season will be the most successful in its history. Mr. Peid, S.M.. this morning made an order for the striking of 190 names off the Masterton electoral roll.
