GOLF IN GALICIA.

A man who has recently been in Galicia tells me a pretty story of the efforts of a certain hotel to attract English visitors, says an English writer. This hotel is in a wonderful country, and much frequented by Spaniards. But Spaniards take no exercise, and it is therefore only for the benefit of the English that the existence of a golf links is advertised. Sly friend was recently at his hotel and was being shown round by a little Spanish guide, who spoke English. After seeing the farm they camo to a clubhouse, wliero six hags full of new golf clubs were hanging. The guide pointed with pride to what he called "the tools." My friend inquired where tho links wore. The guido thereupon pointed to a field the size of a croquet lawn, covered with a three-foot growth of maize. "Tbi-t." lie said, "is the site we have selected for the golf course." "But where are the holes, tho greens?" asked my friend. "Greens! holes!" said the guide. "What arc they for?" Then my friend tried to give some idea of an English golf course, which seemed to astonish him. But all ho said was: "An English colonel has written to say that if wo had golf he would be glad to come here in tho autumn. So I write to say, 'Yes, there is golf.' How he will laugh when I show him this."
