(From Our Special Correspondents.) FEILDING. The filial game in the FricncHv Societies' curd tourney was played this week betweea tha Oddfellows ami Druids. The game was evenly contested, and resulted in a draw. The tourney this year has resulted in a very easy win for the Forester?, tlio points scored being:—Foresters, 01; Druids, 5: Oddfellows, 31. Mrs? F. ;/ Cock, one of the oldest settlors of I'eildhig, died at her residence on Tuesday at the age of C 8 years. Mrs. Cook was one of the original English immigrants, and hnd been in I'cilding for 37 years. Her husband died some- years ago". Sho leaves a family of four—two wins and two 'daughter.-. ' The sons aro M?~rs. Gcnree and Jack Cook (Loth of Feilding), and the daughters are Mr?. J. J{. Kugstc.tl (Ghristchureh), and Mrs. A. W. Astley (Palmerston North). Boxing does not appear to "take on" here this season. At the annual meeting of the Feilding Cluh there were not sulfieient members to form a quorum. Mr. W. M'Dougall, one cf the earliest' and most esteemed settlers in the Tupuae district, is about to take his departure, having sold his farm to Mr. F. Blnndsll. Mr. M'Dougall has been a Tupuae resident for 23 years, and has seen the district develop from a forest of standing bush to the fine farming district which it is to-day. The early closing- movement is gaming ground' here. During the winter the di apery shops have closed at 5.30 instead bf C p.m. Now, in order to give their employees the full benefit of (he weekly holidays, .Messrs. Bramwell Brcs. have, 'decided to close their business premises at noon every Wednesday in future. At a meeting of the Feilding and District Employers' Association Mr. Fred I'irani was elected as delegate lo the annual meeting of the Xew Zealand Employers' Association at Wellington. This meeting takes place on Wednesday, September 20. Mr. T. Hugo, (government Inspector of Fire Brigades, paid an official visit to Feilding last night. He inspected and tested the work of the brigade, and his verdict was satisfactory. Artesian well-boring in Bnnnythorpe is very much in evidence at present. Mr. J. J. Gillies has obtained a very satisfactory flow at 210 feet. This is one of the best llows 'yet obtained in tho district. FEATHERSTON. Iγ. connection with the petition presented to tho Feathcrston County Council asking that the system of rating bo on the basis of unimproved value, a poll of the ratepayers will bo taken on September 15. The Rimut.nka Road has recently been repaired by Vs County Council's workmen, and is now reported to be in good condition. It is anticipated that it will be largely used during the coming summer. At the monuily meeting of the Oddfellows' Lodge held on Monday night Bro. Madeley, of Wellington, a District V.G:, was welcomed as a visitor. SHANNON. The ftev. Mr. J. A. M'Kcnzie presided over the weekly meeting of the lecal Dehatini* Society on Monday evening, when Mr. 11. G. Ell, M.P., gave an address on "Stale Banking." The speaker traced the history of banking, and dealt with the existing State bj.nks on the Continent of Europe. At the conclusion of his address Mr. EH answered a number of questions. The following motion was carried practically unanimously:—"Thai the establishment of a State bank is in the best interests of the Dominion." Mr. ~E\\ was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
