WOOLBROKERS AND DRILL.
MET BY THE DEPARTMENT. Woolbrokcrs have been rather afraid that the call of the Defence Act upon the young men in their employ during'the busy season—from November till the middle of March—will cause considerable inconvenience. On their behalf the Chamber of Commerce communicated with the Defence Department on the matter. Yesterday the council of the chamber dealt with a letter from the Department on the subject. In this it was stated that the general officer commanding would give instructions that as far as possiblo it would bo arranged that the staffs of wool-brokers should not bo called away for military training during the period mentioned. During this period they would, as a rule, only be required for evening drills, and tha -weekly half-holiday. It was probable that the annual week's camp would not take place until March at the earliest, though at this stage it was impossible to say for certain. Every effort would ho made to cause the wool-brokers as little inconvenience as possible. '
