ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
_.—«— — A TATHETIC STORY. (By Telegraph—Pres3 Association.) Thames, August 28. A man named William Jackson has been found (Seat! in the bush at iurua. Ho left his house at Turua on humlaj morning to go to a .slaughterhouse, where he is employed, and as he. did not return for dinner it search was made. Jacfeon. was found late in the afternoon lying laeo downwards on a stump. Ho was not then dead. A party with a trolley went to fetch'him home, but by the'time it arrived lie had expired. As his jaws were broken, it is presumed he too!: a fit and fell face downwards, and in this manner sustained the injury.
UNIQUE WAY OP SUICIDE.. New Plymouth, August 2S. . An inquest was held to-day on a Maori who committed suicide near Waitara, by chopping his head about with an axe. Dr. Wylio said that the man must have been in a state of intense frenzy when he committed the deed, and, as far as he knew, it might bo described as a unique way of committing suicide. SUDDEN DEATH. Napier, August 28. ' John O'Brien, a very old resident of the Port, was found dead in an outhouse of the Crown Hotel. Deceased was of temperate habits, and death was probably due to heart disease. Bank deposit slips for ,£IO2O were found in his clothes pocket. FOUND IN A CREEK. Carterton, August 28. It is reported that the body of a man named Michael Byrne has been found in a creek at Te Wliarau, in circumstances pointing to suicide. Deceased had .been employed as a. labourer by Mr. Cameron, of the Flat Point station. SUICIDE. Thames, August 28. A fatality is reported from Turua, where a man named William Edward Jackson, iS, married, with seven children, was found dead. It proved to be suicide. Deceased suffered from pains in the head and dreaded an operation, which was deemed necessary. Ko took a dynamite cop and fuse, placed it in his mouth, and exploded it, inflicting terrible injuries. A verdict of suicide wliilo temporarily in : sane was returned at the inquest. WASHED UP ON THE BEACH. Dunedin, August 28. Marion Mlunnon, a. widow, residing at St. Clair, aged 78 years, disappeared this morning. Later her dead, body was found washed up on the beach.
