EXTRAORDINARY STAR ATTRACTION. Messrs. John Fuller and ' Sons have been most fortunate in securing tho world-renowned Piquays. They commence a season at the Theatre- Royal on.'lhursday. next, August 31. This act carries ■vith it wonderful hand balancing and grotesque dancing, Mr. Piquay being tho only artist on the stage to-day who perforins an upside-down buck and wing dance on his hands. This act has been imporr«l at big expense, and vaudeville patrons of this popular house of amusement can look forward to something really worth seeing. THE ENGLISH PIERROTS. The farewell performances in the Concert Chamber, Town Hall, of tho English Pierrots coinipenco on Thursday evening. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Islington and suite will be present on that occasion. Full of charm and originality, the bright, humorous, and varied entertainments presented by this versatile and talented company will ao-deubt prove a strong attraction to the amusementloving public. •MUNICIPAL ORCHESTRA. Tor tho concert of tho Municipal Orchestra this evening an exceptionally interesting programme has "teen arranged, and, on rehearsal form, its performance should bo just as satisfactory'. Thanks to assiduous rehearsal under Mr. Maughan Barnett, tho orchestra is nowplaying with ease and finish, and it only requires a responsible public to ensure the entire success of the scheme which has for Wellington been a most welcome recrudescence of orchestral music. Included among tho number.? set down for this evening arc Handel's "Largo," with the solo for the harp and violin, and Tschnikowski's "Caprice Italien" were well rendered, and theso favourites should prove very attractive to-night. Tho programme—given in full in another column—should bo the means of dravNng a. largo crowd io the Town Hall, as it has been compiled with particular care, and comprises music both attractive and popular. The next concert will be given this day week, and will contain amongst other attractive compositions Beethoven's piano concerto.'
WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS. The first annual festival of the New Zealand Competitions Society is to be held in-the Town Hall , and will commence on October 2f>. Tho prizes amount to ,£SOO, and the special prizes' total ,£2SO. A hook giving full particulars may be obtained from any music warehouse, and also from the secretary, Mr. James Dykes.
