MASTERTON SEAT.

Mr. A. H. Herbert', ono of the Reform party candidates for tho vMnstertcm seat, is conducting a vigorous campaign and is receiving encouraging support. His keen, clear-cut criticisms of the Government's administration are a feature- of his addresses. Mr. Herbert spoke in tho Mauriceville Tublic Hall on Saturday, thoro being fully 50 present. At tho conclusion of tho address a motion was moved that the speaker be accorded a hearty vote of thanks. An amendment was moved by a well-known Government supporter "that- this meeting still lias confidence in the Government'." Tho amendment found nD seconder, and tho motion, on being put, was carried by acclamation. ' Mr. G. R. Sykcs has been addressing good meetings in' the Eketahuna district. He spoke at Hukauui on Saturday night' to a good-sized audience and received a vote of thanks. As at Mr. Herbert's meeting the previous ■ Saturday night the following resolution was unanimously carried: "That this meeting considers t'he time has arrived when tho Government should be ousted from office."

A rumour has gained currency that either Sir John Findlay or tho Hon. T. Mackenzie will contest tho Masterton 6eat in t'he Government interests.

. WILL IT BE NELSON? A rumour was afloat in Nelson yesterday that Sir John I'iudlay would contest that scat, where the sitting-member, Mr. J. Graham, defeated Mr. It: Atmore (Independent) by a very small majority three years ago. Mr. Graham, however, expressed great surprise when' the matter was mentioned to him last night by a reporter. He said ho had heard nothing whatever about ;it. THE ROTORUA SEAT. A movement is afoot in Rotorna (says the Rotorna "Times") to requisition the Hon. T. Mackenzie to contest the Tauranga electorate at the forthcoming general election.

A resolution'was carried unanimously protesting against the new electoral boundaries, which place the town in two electorates, Geraldine and Waitaki.
