(From Our Special Corrcsnondenta.) SHANNON. Regardless of. Hie weather conditions on Saturday night there was a large attendance in .the Druids' Hall, when Mr. J. Robertson, Labour candidate for the Otaki electorate, gave an address, and criticised tho Opposition platform, and also compared the present Government to a chameleon—always changing its colour to suit its environment. At the conclusion of his address the candidate answered a number of questions. The following motion was then moved by Mr. Ifensinnn and seconded by Mr. Barclay: "That Mr. Robertson is a fit and proper person to represent the Otaki electorate." An amendment was moved by Mr. Mitchell nnd.seconlcd by Mr. Law: "That the candidate be awarded a hearty vote of thanks." The original motion wns carried by a large majority. Mr. Selby presided. OTAKI. Mild excitement was caused in the business pari: of the township yesterday morning, when a horso, attached to a vehicle owned by. Jlr. Arthur Skerman, became alarmed owing to tho bursting of a motor-car tyre. The animal was unattended, and -set pfr nt a brisk pace. On negotiating a corner, however, tho buggy capsized, but beyond the breaking of the front-board and a few minor damages, no harm was done.
A man, either under the influence of liquor or absent in memory, scared a number of ladies on Sunday as they wero returning from church 'Search parlies' were out at Manakan yesterday hoping to find some trace of the missing man, Peter Smith. No clue, however, was obtained. GREYTOWN. The temperance people started their preelection crusade in Greytown nn Saturday nisht, when Messrs. Tate, Bridges, and Roberts gave addresses.
