WHAT THE LAW PROVIDES,

Auckland, August 27. A little-known provision of la-.v- was introduced by Mr. Kettle iu connection irith somo maintenance cases yesterday, and his remarks should give food for thought to those whom Hie cap fits. He pointed out that the Infant Life Protection A'ct provides that a man who deliberately and consistently neglects to recognise and discharge his responsibilities towards his family is liable to imprisonment for a term of two years. Mr. C. E. Matthews, who appeared for tho complainant in the case, acts also for tho Society for the Protection of Women and Children, and Mr. Kettle gave him a reference to a rtoent important decision in connection with the parallel English Act, and recommended him to commcnd tha section to the society. ,
