BANK KATES OF DISCOUNT. Tho Bank of England rato was reduced on Juno 9 from 4 to 3 per cent.; on September 29 it was advanced to 4 per cent.,, and on October 20 to 5 nor cent. On December 1 it was lowered to 44 per cent., on January 27 to 4 per cent., and on February 16 to 35 per cent., and on March 9 to 3 por cent. Tho Bank of Franco rate was reduced from 3} to 3'per cent, on January 23, 1908. and remains at tho latter figure. The Imperial Bank of Germany on January 21. 19G9, lowered its rate from 5 to 4J per cent., and on February 10 to 4 per cent. But pn September 26 it waa raised to 5 per cent..' oh'Fobrnary 6 it was reduced to 45. per cent.! and on February 19 to 4 per cent. MARKET KATES OF DISCOUNT. Australian-Sellers aro firm, and are asking 355. for off coast, 355. 6d. for South Australian, July shipment, 345. 9d. for Victorian, per steamer. July shipment. There is small inquiry for Australian, on spot, at 375. to 375. 6d.; Now Zealand, 345. 6(1. to'36s. Flour is slow of sale. Australian, ex store, 245. 6d., . Oats are quiet. Dated August 24:—Frozen mutton and lamb: Since our last telegram prices arc Jd. to Jd. per lh. lower owing to released supplies. There is fair demand, but wd expect that, if any change in prices fakes place, it will be in favour of buyers. Frozen beef: There is no demand owing to heavy supplies of chilled.

GRAIN AND PRODUCE. (Bj Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchiireli, August 25. There is not tjuito such a, keen inquiry for wheat as was the ca;e a few days' ago, merchants evidently having been able to fill the orders received by supplies obtained from other firms who held stocks. There arc no offerings at present from farmers, who arc still holding firmly. Oats are firmer, there being more local inquiry in eonse'iucr.co of the shortening of supplies in the south. Very few are. however, coming forward from growers, and stocks in merchants' hands arc limited. There is no change in the Dotato market, prices remaining, at 475. 6d. to 60s. at. country stations, with a moderato amount cf business doing. There is a little more inquiry for oatsheaf chaff, for which Ms. at country stations is still the ruling price. I . THK HOP MARKET. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright London, August 2-1. The quality of the early hops is excellent. Prices rule at .€lO to £11 per cwt. It is expected that, the crop will exceed the average. The Gorman crop is poor.
